Tagged

We were tagged. That means we have to write 8 unique things about us. We are saying US (Chris & Holly) because well, this is our blog. So, a few things you may not know about us are: (drum roll please...)

1. Chris and Holly met in Tallahassee, Florida whilst serving LDS missions (2002-2004). Back then, it was Elder Maritneau and Sister Butler...Elder Martineau was Sister Butler's Zone leader for a time, but she doesn't remember really getting to know him until after he wasn't any her Zone Leader anymore more. After that? Yes, Sister Butler noticed him. They recall thinking that they would look each other up when they got home...something must have worked out.

2. Their first date was at Liquid Joes in SLC on August 10th, 2004. They went to see The Album Leaf, an ambient one man band who is absolutely amazing. There, they say they really fell into each other. Some call that falling in love. The Album Leaf has become their life's soundtrack. Check them out @ www.albumleaf.com

3. Holly is a health nut. Chris is not. This makes grocery shopping and meal cooking a little bit of a hassle...but Chris is slowly coming back over from the Dark side. Standard Staples: Pasta Roni Shells and White Cheese, frozen pizza or pot pies, (all of which Holly refuses to eat), milk, cheese, Barbara's Organic Shredded Spoon Fulls, some sort of fresh fruit- lately its been blueberries. Green peppers, lettuce, yogurt. (Most of which Chris refuses to eat)

4. Chris and Holly are dog people. But not just any dog. They have to be large breeds. None of these rat sized "dogs". Their first dog as a married couple was a Red/White Siberian husky named Battle. We ended up selling her to a family who actually ran dog sleds- she's much happier there. They now enjoy the company of Mr. Hank the Vizsla. Hank's bank of tricks include: sit, stay, speak, shake, sit pretty, play dead, "touch it", some agility and pulling with a harness. Hunting? Na. Although that is probably what he'd like to do more than anything! (Pic below is Hank stalking a poor unsuspecting duck along the snake river in Idaho Falls) Chris says he wants to add a Great Dane or a Mastiff to our family sometime soon.

5. Speaking of family, Chris and Holly are expecting their first child. Due February 29th (yes, thats Leap Day). They will not be finding out the gender of the baby, nor do they have any definite names picked out, they'd like to meet their child first. Being that Holly is a health nut, this also means that she is interested in Alternative Health, or as she likes to put it, Complementary Health. This being so, the baby will be born with the help of a midwife in a birthing center. She looks forward to a Water Birth. Of course, Chris is 100% supportive.

6. Within the last 2.3 years, Chris and Holly have lived in a total of 5 different residences in 4 different cities. They tend to like change and are open to new adventures. They still own a home in Idaho Falls, but are currently renting it out while they work and attend school in Utah. They live in Kamas, Utah right now, but this residence will also soon change...Don't worry. They say they will soon settle down. (As much as that is possible with them!) Pics below: 1) Home in Idaho Falls. 2) View from front window.

7. Guilty Pleasures: Holly- Gilmore Girls and Law and Order. Give her a season to watch and not much else gets done! Chris- World Of Warcraft computer game. Take all the clocks out of the room and he could play for days. Chris and Holly are aware that both of these guilty pleasures are unfortunate.

8. These two lovebirds are Dreamers. They have dreams of a brood of children, a home custom built to their "green" specifications, dreams of a "cowboy's" life, complete with horses, chickens a milk cow and little buck-a-roos running around. Dreams of financial comfortability, self-sufficiency and above all, a family that is functional, productive, intelligent and humble followers of their Heavenly Father. Dreams really do come true- Chris and Holly are Proactive Dreamers.

So thats it. Eight things you may or may not have known about the Martineaus.
People the Martineaus are tagging: Jazzy and Charlie, Mike and Alicia, Becky and Nick and anyone else who thinks this is a good idea for a blog! Post Post Post!!!

  1. hey holly,
i am soooo excited for you to have your baby the way that you want to. Jonathan was born at home and our next baby will also be born at home (due dec 4th) It is sooo worth it and such a neat experience. Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes to prepare. I did/am doing "hypnobirthing". While labor was hard work I was not in any pain. If you want more info i'm happy to share. I am also into alternative/healthy living- so it's so neat to have something in common.
Good luck on your start to blogging.

  2. Well Holly, you'll be glad to know that I have come around to understand people who desire unmedicated births and I no longer think they are crazy. However, tell me how it goes because there is a 95%, no, 98% chance I will never do it. My threshold for pain is, well virtually non-existent. You go girl!
